Episode 3 Thoughts (Saw it last night (05.03.05) in Marin)

I really enjoyed the first two films... moreso when I was watching them in a theatre with other star wars fans.. that is a good night out..

I am even more stoked at all the positive things I am hearing about the new film... People can whine and complain all they like about Lucas and his movies..

but damn.. he is living the dream of any filmmaker... he is completely independent of Hollywood and the studio system.. technically he is the most powerful indie filmmaker alive..

****.. i can't wait to see it.. the anticipation is reaching new heights of crazy

I totally agree. I mean, I know the first 2 episodes are nothing close to cinematic masterpieces... and I don't care. When I went to see Phantom Menace on premiere day I got what I went to see - Star Wars - and I couldn't ask for more. Yeah, perhaps it's way more childish than it should have been and the acting is rather dull, but I got a chance to dive into the universe I came to love since childhood again, so who cares? And I felt same way about Episode II and you know what? I'm gonna feel the very same way about ROTS the day I see it. Not to mention that it looks like it's going to be awesome. I can't wait and, on the other hand, I wish the day never came, because it will be last SW movie ever
Go, George! All the haters are just jealous. It's his story, his vision, his baby and he does whatever he wants to it and I'll like whatever he does.

I think only those who fought in WWI (or II) would truly understand the relationship that Tolkien set out for Frodo and Sam. It's a feeling most soldiers experienced during both wars. After all they didn't keep fighting for whatever propaganda was being thrown at them it was because of their buddies.

No one is questioning various scenarios of men and bonding in a war situation, but the way PJ shot Frodo and Sam bonding(especially at the end of ROTK)--waaaaayyy too much more than I believe Mr. Tolkien intended (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Go, George! ...

Personally, I would bet that within the next ten or fifteen years, there will be another series of films (in addition to the television series being hinted at by Lucas et. al.).

Simply put, this is too great a franchise for Hollywood to walk from.

Especially when the franchise is story- (OK and CGI-) generated and does not inherently rely upon a single actor (a la "Indiana Jones") or ensemble (a la "Star Trek").

Fret not!

Lucas announced at Celebration 3 that he's not doing 7-8-9, but he's working on a live and cartoon TV series in which he will direct only a couple of the first shows.

At the risk of being "too" forward thinking (macabre?), recall that Roddenberry died in 1991 and that (at least relying upon imdb.com) Star Trek Voyager, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, Star Trek First Contact, Enterprise, Star Trek Insurrection, Star Trek Generations and Star Trek Nemesis were all produced after his death. Star Trek 11 has now been announced for a 2007 release.

And then, of course, you have the Bond franchise (Fleming and Brocolli died in 1964 and 1996, respectively) ...

Even if Lucas never personally produces another Star Wars movie, I wonder if his lawyers would be good enough in their drafting of his will so as to prohibit his heirs from further developing the franchise after he dies?

... and I'm not even going to go near whether another film should be produced ...

I heard that. That's bizarre.

Do something else. This is one reason he is not on my 'Killer Filmmaker' list. He's gotta let it go. It's like working on the same painting over and over; obsession to the point of losing all rational focus isn't it? Let's paint the same flower forever. I think the masterpieces were SW 1 and 2 (Or whatever they're called; 1977 and 1980). NOw it's overkill.

I agree, I'd like to see him do something original again. And indy 4 script approval doesn't count. I want to see if he's got anything left in him besides screwing up a potentially phenomenal franchise. (I'm so going to SW fan hell after that).

Lucas has said several times that after Episode III he's going to go back to making "films that no one will want to see" (his words, not mine) like THX1138. The more artsy cinema is where his heart is. I think that will be interesting. THX was a pretty good little film. I'd very much like to see what Lucas would do outside of Star Wars.

I think I'll wait until Lucas brings out "Star Wars 7 - Jar Jar Binks' Quest for Ganja" in 3-D Smell-o-vision.

Man, I've been reading about a supposed "deal breaker" of sorts in the film. I do not want to post it here due to spoilers so I'm throwing up a link to the discussion. Perhaps since sugahsean has seen it he can provide some info.
here's the link DO NOT click if you do not want a major spoiler. This scene seems to have flown over the head of every reviewer so far. I sure as hell did not see it coming.

Hasn't that been since Jedi? :undecided :cheesy:

I always thought Anakin was the bastard son of a Tusken Raider.

Pushing peoples buttons I see. Ever see Triumph the insult comic Dog at the opening of part 2 with all the "fans" dressed up in costume... freakin hilarious!

It's one of those things that are left open to interpetation. In the original script, Palpatine is totally the pupil who kills Plagueis and is Anakin's father. By the the time they are on the final draft, it's rewritten to the way you see in the movie. I thinks it better that we never really know if Palpatine is who we think he is or it's another one of his lies that he told to hook in Anakin and become emperor.
