This camera was just released and I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the older version or already got their hands on this thing to see how it works.

I have both the Contour HD and GoPro HD, but the viewer on this thing sounds appealing (besides adjustable audio).

Hi,

I would love to discuss POV cameras somewhere on this forum, but I don´t seem to understand the topic system - Panasonic, DSLR...? Doesn´t make sense.

I am a big fan of POV cameras. While ago I bougth the Dogcam 520. Since it is only 4:3 and 520 lines, it´s not really ideal for HDTV.
80 percent of my shooting is cars, and I do not mean some fancy tripod behind the tree, dof shots... I mean real action, camera stuck to the car :D

So we bougth a Sony HXRMC1/ACC which is, at the moment, THE best POV camera there is in terms of video quality.
You can set the exposure yourself, it has a slow motion mode (aprox. 100fps), it is FullHD, 16:9, ring for filters, wide conversion, the lot.
What I hate about all of the HD POV cameras, are those idiotic CMOS sensors. That´s ok for parachutists and similar shooting, but they are useless when it comes to vibration and fast jerky movement.
When the CCD equiped Dogcam 520 had no problems at all capturing a Jeep driving insanely fast thru snowy roads, the Sony strugled due to rolling shutter (although this camera has the best rolling shutter compensation I´ve ever seen).
An example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3msZiYaxE4

So I was thinking, since the Dogcam has a screwable lens cover, it would be possible to mount a anamorphic lens on it and make it 16:9. That would be awesome, since 4:3, 520 tvl, with cropped upper and lower part of the picture makes it only 300 and something lines. And that looks awfull in 720p project :(
The dogcam can also take quite a lot of punishment. Once, the whole camera was covered with ice (Jeep meeting in the winter) making no problems for the camera to work correctly.
Do you think somethink like that could exist? :D

D.K.

For simplicity and use I would just stay with the GoPro also. Comparably, it has the best picture quality from other POV camera's I have personally used. Minus the whole underwater problem that I'm still waiting on GoPro to release a 'certified' flat housing for the thing.

I have not used the HXR-MC1/AAC but with a 100 fps it sounds very appealing. CMOS, yes many a trouble with the shakiness on those things.

It is crazy the marketing GoPro is doing in the states here. I worked in the snowboard industry for years and GoPro was just an 'action sports camera' that was being tested by riders and now they are getting down on mega advertising on primo channels.
