OTHER: Epic DJI Phantom Crash into Bryce Canyon

ive heard nothing but horror stories about the phantom, many fly away never to be found, but the worst part is the footage, i'm yet to see anything useable from a phantom, it's always jello cam, and shaky footage. I think it's just to small and unstable to be used as anything more than a hobby, or a way to learn how to fly. I would be careful where you fly that especially if they haven't worked out the fly away bug they had.

I've been pleasantly surprised by how mine has behaved. I've had some major crashes and it's escaped unharmed. I think the flyaway thing is usually user error. If you don't allow it time to detect the GPS satellites before take off - it will not know where to land if it loses signal. Also, since the transmitter is 2.4ghz you have to be careful of interference. Some people were trying to use the GoPro's ability to remotely transmit video to an Iphone - it does this over 2.4ghz and can interfere with the operation of the Phantom.

As far as the video quality, the Phantom is not meant to shoot professional footage - It can only carry a GoPro. However, some surprisingly decent footage can be had if you spend some time in Post.
Here's some footage I shot that is not Jello cam or too shaky to be usable in a low budget indie production.

Mine has been amazing to fly and durable in the beginning when I was still learning and bumping it into things. A lot of fun. Stable footage has been tough. I've been flying an LX7 which is nice but I can't figure out how to DYI a better anti-vibration mount yet. Have used some footage her and there. Great thing to learn on, and maybe do something more with it.

Did you balance the props? That's the single best thing to do to get better footage. It doesn't take much to make the props unbalanced again. If it tips over and scrapes the ground, chances are the props will need to be rebalanced. All I have for antivibration is this thing:
