EOSHD:Tips and tricks for making Panasonic look more like Canon

Actually I find the opposite of what he says to be true. I remove the "burnt-in" look by setting Nostalgic's white balance color chart + 8 towards blue (right click 8 times) and -1 towards magenta (down click once). That overall yellow basically disappears. Then I just white balance accordingly. The results look closer to my old 7D colors than what he proposed.

I figured the white balance settings may be a per camera thing. As a former 7D user, do you find his suggestions on bumping contrast and saturation in Nostalgic to be true?

That can vary. I'm not sure if he bumps contrast because he thinks Canons have a more contrast(y) image. I think they do....unless one uses Canon's custom curves (but then that added extra noise). Canons are more saturated (out of the box)....and I'm not sure just raising saturation in camera would duplicate it. But on my old Canon I shot desaturated anyways. The GH-X's always had this...yellowish tint to its image. And because I like to use Nostalgic mode the most I needed to find a way to reduce it. Once I did I found it to be similar to my old Canon footage...but sharper. :)

Thanks for the info, Ian! I do like my GH2 on a technical level, but I like the Canon look on an emotional one...if that makes any sense.

I was filming and shooting video on the Santic Monic peer and so many Tii owners kept on looking at the GH2. I think they knew what it was.

Same is true for me, I prefer the colour from my Canon 600D, everything else is better on the GH2. Now I have got this colour issue sorted I am even happier with the GH2.

Just to pick up on Ian's point about the colour balance chart... 8 notches in any direction is too far! Your whites will not by white any more... it is like your girlfriend putting pink underwear in the washing machine.

8 notches might be a little much for some but you still have to push it more towards the blue to get that yellow out.

Ian, how do you get to the menu for those settings? I can get to the film mode screen, but can't find how to get to the individual color adjustments... I'm a little slow!

Looked through the manual and it says to go to white balance and then push the down arrow but that doesn't seem to be working. Then when I push the actual white balance toggle button (right rocker) it brings up the focus square.... very confusing....

It's not really individual color adjustments...it's the color adjust square (sort of like a typical color adjustment wheel) that has green on top...magenta on the bottom...yellow (A) on the left and blue on the right. What I do is after clicking white balance I immediately click the down arrow on the cam. It comes up with that square. From there I click it towards the blue and then some towards the magenta. I then leave it on Auto White balance. I like it...but it would come down to taste for others.

Turn the focus dial to AFS and try again

Actually I figured out what I had set incorrectly... I had Direct AF Area set to on so when I pushed the WB button, it would bring up the focus square thingy with the four arrows to move around the screen.. All good now!

I tried Andrew's settings, but have gone back to Nostalgic -2, -2, 0, 0 and manual white balance. Maybe I'm color blind, but I don't see any yellow. Still liking it better than my old T2i.

Funny. When I sold my T2i, the buyer asked what I had replaced it with. When I showed him, I could see a little 'buyer's remorse'. I'm just glad he had already paid me :-)
