EOSHD Review of GH2

After the fiasco of Panasonic upgrading my firmware without asking, I was rather angry with them and really did not want to buy another one of their products. However, I've changed my mind. I WANT ONE NOW!

I'm really intrigued by this KiPro. Has anyone used this combination?

i don't get how Eoshd is saying the GH2 can output real 422.. currently the output HDMI looks problematic and crippled in some way. no one done a proper test to claim such a big conclusion. maybe the KiPro itself can make that happen.

Or Nanoflash. At the same bitrate (100 - 220 mbps), less cost, solid state media and ... may sound strange, but someone does not use MAC!

The journalistic standards are getting better at EOSHD, but there is definately some work that still needs to be done.

P. Bloom is testing with Nanoflash this week sometime. There are videos on the web that show it outputs clean (no stuff on the screen) while letting you have stuff on the LCD screen, and there was always evidence that it outputs 1080/24p when recording in that setting.

i know that it outputs some kind of yet unknown quality. i ask how do they know it lets you output & record true 422 ?

Being a PC/Edius user ProRes is alien to me. From what I've read it seems not much different to MJPEG @ 100mbps 4:2:2. Is this an oversimplification?

Do you think there really would be a visible advantage of using an external device to capture (8 bit?) ProRes via HDMI from a GH2 vs the 100mbps 4:2:2 MJPEG out of a GH13. After all, ProRes is still a lossy intraframe codec...

The careful tests I've done with my GH13's have convinced me that when tweeked carefully MJPEG can be made to look "nicer" (color rendition) than AVCHD @ 60mbps...
 
Unfortunately the resolution isn't there with the GH1(3)'s MJPEG. I agree the colors on the MJPEG looks nicer to me at that bit rate but the AVCHD has more resolving power. I really wish we had 24p/1080 MJPEG.

Reminded me of "... there are also unknown unknowns; there are things we do not know we don’t know."

Did ya get that BlackMagic straightened out yet?

That's what I first thought and hence I didn't use MJPEG much until recently. Now I'm not so sure it's really resolution rather than some sort of processing/sharpening that goes on in the AVCHD codec. By adjusting the sharpness setting for MJPEG the controlled side-by-side comparisons I've been doing look about identical to my eyes...and to several folks who've had a look without knowing which was which.

A very pleasant surprise as far as I'm concerned...:)
 
I see they said lots of nice things, that's great but I already ordered mine. What they did say that jumped off the page at me:

"Conclusion (part 1)

For now, I recommend the GH2 over the 60D in every respect, even if you have Canon lenses. You can adapt the Canon lenses to work on the GH2, and they'll look beautiful. There is an adapter coming soon which allows AF, OIS and aperture control on the GH2 with Canon EF, EFS and L series lenses."

Anyone have any clue who is putting this adapter out and any idea on how close will this be to these lenses now being "auto everything" ???

Naaa.. I don't trust myself or the blackmagic for the test. We need
A serious deep tester with KiPro..
