This is a pre announcement and will be ready to ship in about two weeks
[less if one of my suppliers steps up]
When ready to ship they will be able to be purchased right here on DVXuser.
I have designed and am manufacturing [and will soon be ready to ship] an aluminum mattebox with drop in filter holder and removable French flag.
Sorry for the crappy picture, it's all I have available right now. In about a week I will post some detailed photos.
I'm calling this an entry level unit as it's a low frills unit. But Very Usable. It's made from a super light weight but durable aluminum that does not require a support system. This unit weighs about 12 ounces! Comes with a removable French flag as well. Has the ability to hold 84mm filters [or P Series] Filters from Cokin, Tiffen, Hitech & Singh-Ray and others. I chose this filter size as it provides a huge range of filter options from $20 on the low end up to $180 on the high end. And tons in between. This give the user the option to experiment with using filters without the burden of laying out a ton of cash.
System mounts to front of DVX lens with stock sunshade removed. Aluminum adapter screws to filter threads and then matte box is snapped on. Installed and removed in seconds.
To keep the weight and cost down the filters themselves can't rotate, but the entire mattebox can be rotated for rotating grads if desired.
It will be best to use the full square filters to avoid vignetting [84mm x 84mm, 84mm x 100mm, 84mm x 120mm, etc] The square filters frames with round filters cause nasty vignetting.
This cannot be used with any wide angle lenses or 35 adapters unless lens has front threads but you would likely be unable to use filters. But could still be an effective sunshade. May cause vignetting depending on lens size up front.
This setup is shown on the DVX but can be used on any camera with a lens under 72mm with an optional adapter [an extra $15]

Cokin has resins in the $20 up area. They need to be cared for very carefully as they can scratch easily but the upside is if you decide you don't like a filter it's no great loss to put it away and use little.
The higher end filters are far more scratch resistant, but are more pricey.
I have some organic glass filters coming from a supplier overseas and if they are a cool quality I will be able to offer them at a nice discount. [$20 for the more popular Grads and NDs]
I also have in development a 100mm holder [4x4] but it's very early in the mold process and will be coming from overseas and will certainly be months away if not much longer.
I will be initially rolling out a dozen units in approximately two weeks and production will continue from there.
Again, more pics and detailed info soon....
