ENEMA Strikes Back -- A Production Blog

Time has come for the third installment of my friend Jake and I's spy franchise. It all started with an idea we came up with for a Non Linear Editing Class project. We had to make a "how to" video. Casino Royale had just come out on DVD, around that time, and Jake and I were huge fans. We decided to do How To Be A 00 Agent. We wrote it in a day and a half. We wanted a chase scene in there, but we obviously couldn't do a car chase, so we came up with the idea for the lawn mower chase.

We received a lot of great feedback on the film, and how we could improve. About four months later, we came up with a new idea for a new movie. Jake and I wrote it in about a week's time. We did a lot more pre production for it then we did for the first film. The final project came out around November. It took us about two months to film. From Ohio With Lust was what came out in the end.

Then, January hit, and I moved to Winter Park. Jake wasn't able to come down with me, which bummed me out, cause we work really well together, and think a lot alike. Down here I met a lot of really talented, and passionate people. I pitched my friend Lamar the idea I had for a third film. He liked the idea, and we let it simmer for a while. We finally got together yesterday to start writing the first act. That's when I had an idea. I gave Jake a call to see if he would be interested in flying down and helping out with the third film. He said he's definitely interested and wants to come down. He's starting to save up the money now. To help out a little, for my birthday, Lamar and I are throwing a kegger, and charging a few bucks to get in, to help Jake out with airfare.

We're going to be building our own dolly very soon, getting a better tripod for the shoot, and get in contact with some instructors at Full Sail to see about using their equipment for the shoot.

The way this film is shaping up from the first act, it's like Blazing Saddles, meets Superbad, meets James Bond. It's gonna be hilarious. We're aiming for about forty pages for the script. We're gonna have gunfights, hand to hand combat, car chases, foot chases. A little bit of everything.

I'll be updating this, hopefully daily, on the goings on of the film. We have a small crew put together so far.

You know I actually thought this was gonna be a Blink 182 Documentary. That title will forever stick with me.

Blazzing Saddles rocks, you have my attention. :B

HAHA. I love Blazing Saddles. Mel Brooks is one of my greatest comedic influences.

Today, Lamar and I are working on the second and most likely third act. Afterwards we're gonna work on storyboarding everything out.

Once script is set in stone, we're gonna start doing read throughs so we'll be prepared as possible on set, and get as much of the laughs out as possible.

Today I'm also meeting with an instructor to see about the equipment we need in advance, giving him enough time to secure it for us.

We have a meeting Sunday with a person who is going to be our storyboard artist. We're going to be going over the shots we want for the first act of the film.

Some scheduling conflicts came up today, and we weren't able to meet to start penning the second act. That will be done Sunday as well.

I'm sure you're aware of this, but good audio is critical. It always amazes me how of a difference it makes. Your camera work and lighting seem fine, so I would focus on that third element. Good luck!

Thanks! Yeah, we're gonna get a sound mixer this time around, and put a lot of work into the audio. I know that audio is my weak point, so I plan on hiring someone else.

Lamar and I hammered out a first draft today. I went home to email to Jake. I reread it to make sure there was no mistakes and ended up doing a couple of redrafts of some dialogue I didn't like.

Things are going well for production so far. Later this week we're going location scouting and to an Army/Navy surplus store to find some props, etc.

We had to do a redraft of the script today. One of the actors has to fly home and isn't able to be in the film. So we cut his character out, and replaced him with a different type of character, plus we tightened up the overall script.

Tomorrow is location scouting, Thursday is storyboarding.

I'm talking to the sound mixer and boom op we used on The Big Blind to see if they'd be interested in helping on this as well.

Location scouting didn't go GREAT today. We found one place we like but it may be 500 bucks to film there for a day, and we're all college students, and we don't have that kind of coin.

We're currently waiting to hear back from the Florida Film Commission as to the fees. We may just have to settle for something on Full Sail's backlot that doesn't necessarily coincide with our vision of the place....

I'll know tomorrow.

Lamar and I just got done rewriting the script. We changed the plot line around and tightened up the script. It's a lot more flowing now.

In the rewrite we changed locations and were able to secure the location also. We've got to storyboard as soon as possible, and when we get our schedules for next month, we're going to get the production schedule up and going.

Lighting equipment is a lock. July 20th we film for 12+ hrs. Then we split the rest of the shoot up throughout the week, depending on our class schedule. Things are going pretty smooth still.

Really looking forward to filming.

Dean! I just saw this thread... Sounds like things are going according to plan...

And Buster Cherry... that's awesome... :D
