Encore Blu-Ray workflow for 1080@30P...

I understand 1080@30P isn't part of the Blu-Ray spec. That's the format I shot with HMC-150.

I'm using Adobe Media Encoder to transcode a ProRes Quicktime (from FCP 1080 30P timeline) to 1080@24P MPEG2. Will this jack up the video or should it be smooth sailing? Looked around and couldn't find clarification, thanks for any advice.

For anyone interested, here's what I wound up doing...

AME didn't give an option for 1080 @ 60i for my source file. So I went with MPEG2 1080 @ 29.97 Played back, footage looks fine on the plasma without any weird/different look. I switched between SD card playback (the master) over component and the blu-ray over HDMI. The master, of course, looks a bit sharper. The master also had better color; can't put my finger on it but perhaps there was a larger range of color on the master over the MPEG2.

I don't think I'll be shooting 1080 @ 30P again. ;)

Hello TheBoss =)

60i is indeed 29.97. I shot and edit in 1080p. Then export to 29.97 MPEG or H.264 for BluRay authoring. It looks beautiful. It depends on which encoder you use, but most that I came across will split the full frame into 2 fields to 29.97 interlace footage for MPEG/H.264 export. In that case, there is no quality loss. The content is still 1080p30 in 60i wrapper.

Unless I am shooting for slow motion, I won't go back 60i shooting. 30p is so much nicer. Also no need to deal with deinterlacing.

Great!

You can understand how this would be confusing though, yes? Thanks for clearing that up, I appreciate it.

Perhaps I will continue to shoot in 1080 @ 30P :)
