Empty clips from SxS card SDHC media

What's the best way to empty the clips whether it's the SxS card or SDHC card?

  1. Format the media using EX1
  2. Instead of format, delete only using EX1
  3. Format the media using PC
  4. Only delete the clips using Clip Browser
  5. Delete the clips using Windows Explorer

Does any of the above options makes any difference? The reason I asked is because one of my SDHC card was corrupted and formatting the media using EX1 would not work. I eventually have to use my PC to format the media and re-insert back into EX1 otherwise EX1 would not recognized the media.

I was told by the supplier of my sdhc card that it is infact better to use clip delete option from inside the camera menu. i have previously had numerous problems with sdhc cards and have only now got a workflow that ensures i get my clips off the card.

I noticed that if you take SxS card and format in the camera it takes longer than a sdhc card just about a few seconds longer but it seems like the camera formats the SxS card more thouroughly than SDHC. I have had no problems with my sdhc card since i started to use clip delete option.

I've been deleting in both the camera and clip browser without any problem so far. I only had to format when it was a new card. I'd be curious if anyone has had any difference. The camera is just a slow computer. Most deletes and quick formats just changes to the table/index used to locate the file. They don't actually get rid of the file itself until its overwritten. (Which can be a good thing if you need to recover something.) A quick format is a new blank table and some markers.

Thanks for the response. I just have another SDHC card issue last night. I couldn't copy the clips over. Drag and drop, create new file, drop files into this card in my PC and it would not work. I finally had to bite the bullet and do a full format of the card.

I delete clips in CB or format the card in camera, SDHC and SxS
No problems

Yep, I just format the cards. No muss no fuss. Format in camera, and if that won't work, then format on PC, then camera.
