Empire Redux available to view.

Excellent! I get it now...

Really, Lawrie, this (for me) is 110% better than the fest version. Cheers!

Thanks guy appreciated that and yep Guy Maddins modernist spins on silent era film are definately an inspiration. I definately welcome comparisons to the truncated entry for Quest fest to see whether anyone feels its improved etc.

Hi Lawrie, I have been looking for your quest fest entry the last couple of days so this will help. Where is the original one for comparison, I didn't see it in the DVXFest pages.

I see you making a lot of strong comments on other peoples films so I am really interested in seeing your DVXFest work.

best,
-Tommy

Hi there TMerry, check the questfest section on www.dvxfest.com - its quite inferior to this version - but fortunately won the creative vision award last festival.

Check for my name Lawrie Brewster, on exposure room too you'll see bits and bops from recent to student, commercial and creative etc. I'll be uploading a fixed edit of Rusalka under Sarah's instruction.

I welcome your interest in my work, but i wouldnt draw a parallel to my opinion and the quality of mine own films. For one there quality like my opinions are measured in the eye of the beholder, while a fine wine taster might not stomp on the grapes himself to enjoy a glass.

Btw did you enjoy Empire? :)

Thanks Lawrie - I'll check them out back to back on my break today and leave you a note
Cheers!

Lawrie,
finally finished my film and got a chance to sit down and watch yours all the way through.
My first thoughts were that I didn't like it, that is to say the style of the solarized look of the soldiers over the backdrop of the terrain, THEN after a few minutes I started getting into it and it "got it". Then it became and odd journey that kept me watching for more.

It really does take the viewer on a journey and it seemed a lot longer than it was.
The waltzing soldiers on the battle field in the middle was my favorite moment. (that and the frozen baby in the snow, of course)

Loved the soundtrack and how you used it sometimes sporadically to underline the story.
Also LOVED the keywords at the bottom of the exposureroom page LOL!

All and all it was an odd little EPIC mini feature that made me smile throughout :-)

funny satire of russian 30s propaganda films
meticulously constructed shots and sound
authentic mock restoration of nitrate footage.
had a blast watching it. LOL

Cheers guys!

Just noticed the feedback added here.

TMerry - thanks for the comments, I will give your film feedback too later today mon amie. I'm glad you liked it - in a way its a kind of homage to an era i really enjoyed cinematically - and is a kind of abstract reconstructional style that directors like Guy Maddin are exploring too.

Filmman I'm glad you liked it too - I know you have a penchant for slightly offbeat films too :)

Not offbeat, Lawrie! Avant garde! Felliniesque! Cinema Verite! You know, artistic movies! LOL Good to see you've been doing well. I looked at your site; very professional! No wonder you're getting awards!

Aweee thanks man - much appreciated cheers. Glad you enjoyed the site - i mean its mostly corporate stuff on show there, but you can check out other films and some of my cheesy student stuff too on the exposure room, including some shorts I make with Sarah Daly!

I've won some awards - from modest business, to the odd wee online fest but not any of the big festivals or anything like that - i am like most here working towards that, improving their work etc.

I mean i love genre films with an artistic/innovative twist the most - though sure i will enjoy a lot of arty films too. I like Ken Russell, Takeshi Miike, Akira Kurosawa etc personally. But there are films i love too from Sergio Leonne, Dario Argento and John Carpenter that are firmly genre orientated too.

This is me and Sarah at an Awards function recently (with a lovely chap there from the event) we got nominated but no dice on winning hehe!

Personally I rarely enter things, but im wanting more than ever to engage with fests - particularly im aiming for city based, regional festivals etc - to try and break into them first.

Keep me posted on the progress of your own good film sir!
