F5: Emergency Request for EVF Compatibility

OK, here's the deal.. I use a SmallHD DP6 and a Zacuto EVF with my F5 (do not own either of the Sony EVF's). Im away from home with only my SmallHD monitor and decided to try the camera in XAVC 60p (not S&Q). Upon the camera's reboot to 60p my monitor would not accept the signal from SDI sub 3 out which I normally use, tried the other SDI's as well. Since this is the only monitor I have with me Im stuck with no image or menu until I get back home Sat. night and I have a gig on Sunday morning. Im hoping my Zacuto EVF or my 42" Sony Bravia tv (at home) will accept the 60p signal so I can get back in to the menu and switch back to 24p Saturday night. By now you can probably see my predicament as I dont really feel like telling my producer the camera is "bricked" till I can get in the menu via a Sony EVF.

My desperate request to all of you is if you happen to own a Zacuto EVF (and a Sony for safety's sake) or know someone with one, can you check if the Zacuto will accept the 60p signal? My second request is to fellow F5/55 owners in NYC who own the Sony EVF, would it be possible for me to contact you early evening Sat. in order to access my camera's menu with your EVF? Im going to see if anyone might be at Able Sat. afternoon and try to get back to the city early.

Appreciate any help any of you can offer. Man I feel like a idiot..

Problem Resolved:

Jeff Lee at Able NY "blind clicked" me through the menu over the phone by braille to get the camera to reboot in to 24p. Cant tell you how happy I 'am with their customer/tech service. Situations like this are why supporting/shopping at professional camera shops is a great idea.

cool. i was wondering about that, but since i don't have an f5, i couldn't really offer.

We're happy to help, but this is why we strongly suggest everyone buy a Sony viewfinder with their F5 & F55 purchase. Not only will you have an excellent viewfinder that works in every mode the camera offers but you'll also never run the risl of bricking your camera while on a shoot. If we can be of service AbelCine is glad to be there for you, but y'all better not be callin' me up at 3am 'cause you were too cheap to buy the right viewfinder! ;-)

Point taken Mitch.

I'll say this though, when Sony includes a spot meter(like F3), waveform and Zebra's that go below 50 I'll gladly buy a Sony EVF. Until then they're a little overpriced for what they offer compared to the competition, since I already have one. Except for being able to save my butt the next time I lock myself outta the menu, that's priceless. ;-)

Andy Shipsides contacted me after I spoke with Jeff and reminded me that "When shooting in 60p mode you can change the output on the HDMI and Sub 3 menu to 60i. This is set in the video out menu." -If I had been thinking I would of done this first but it's good info/reminder either way for those wanting to shoot 60p and view on a external monitor that wont accept a 60p signal.

Thanks again to everyone at Abel
