I am shooting my fist feature in the high sierras and my HVX, purchased through promax is having audio dropouts. Can Barry please call me right away or can someone send me his number. I really need help.
I'd tend to agree with Cynic821 though -- audio dropouts would be some manner of hardware problem.
Are you using wireless microphones? If so, double-check the batteries -- especially in cold areas, batteries don't last long and that could cause some glitching/audio dropouts.
Are you recording to tape or to the cards? What do you mean by dropouts? Is it the "beep" that occasionally happens on DV tape?
If to the cards, are you hearing the dropouts during playback in the camera, or only after transferring to computer? If it's only after the transfer then that makes me wonder if you're using FCP and have the infamous transfer dropout situation (or if you're using a FireStore without the latest firmware updates?)
I'm trying to think of what else it could be... obviously a bad cable or a bad microphone or a bad XLR jack or a bad camera all spring to mind.
If you bought it through ProMax, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they gave you a loaner. My experiences with ProMax have always been first-rate, I bet you they'll help you out. If none of the other suggestions pan out, call them as soon as possible and see if they have any way to help you while the problem gets investigated.
