Did anyone was able to understand if the Panasonic GH1 firmware is based on a commercial embedded OS, or is it a fully internal project? Panasonic extensively used Montavista Linux on several devices (phone, videocamera), but also a japanese open source (at least for what I understand) project aimed to develop an obiquitous embedded operating system, uITRON4. This is the list of functions supported by the OS: http://www.semicon.panasonic.co.jp/e-micom/realtimeos/function.html People with experience into the firmware sees anything familiar?
Here you can find the full specification of uITRON4 (in english!)
http://www.ertl.jp/ITRON/SPEC/mitron4-e.html
Maybe this can help opening the firmware with a better knowledge.
