No, I mean that in the Screen Grab section tonight, I saw a thread by Elvis called "In the Name of God." He posted it earlier today and I went to it and viewed it. Now that thread is gone. Actually, I posted the first response to it. I immediately caught a typo and went to revise it. When I hit save, I got a message saying no such thread exists. It was a real Twilight Zone experience for me (I don't get out much). Anyway, I was just curious, that's all.

Well this is nice. At first glance when I saw the title I was like "What the **** is this ****?" thinking I was in for some religious type short but then....

The CIA dude pulls up. Now lets just say, I am a sucker for this subject matter. It is a current event and its interesting. Here is my review:

Acting
Holy crap is right! Damn Scott, you are the actor. You did a really good job in this piece. I feel as if the dialog could be tweaked not only to help the story but to help both of you (The actors) but that being said; you both did a really solid job.

Story
Totally liked it and totally dug the payoff. I was like "Oh man, that sucks" but your character was kind of a maniac; then again, the Jihad Muslim dude was a maniac too. In referring back to the dialog, I did feel at times it was a little too chatty, too much back and forth on the same thing, like maybe cutting it down to 7 minutes (assuming its 10 minutes?) This is a personal opinon of my feel for the piece.

Cinematography
Very solid. The shots were exposed nicely, focused properly and some nice comps. I personally would have like to have seen a bigger variety of shots using ECU's, Dolly, Truck to give this even more creative flair but it still works. Maybe its my whole MTV generation thing?

I also would have preferred an oversaturated, crushed black kind of look. All of the shots were wonderfully lighted and exposed, but I do feel that not everything needs to be seen; like we should have some imagination of the background. That being said, your use of lighting is very nice and totally reinforces the proper lighting kit. There are a couple really nice shots of warmth on the talent and in the rafters (beams?) that add nice depth and contrast to the shots.

Editing
Not a bad job here in post. There seemed to be too many FADE transition CUTS and I would have preferred 'poppier' cuts over this style but it still works. Maybe quicker paced cuts to help the tension along set by the actors? This goes hand in hand with a bigger variety of shots as well. The more shots, the more editing options. It still looks nice though and the eye lines are on. I did not dig the black and white personally but understood what was implied. The slowmo took me out of it for a second; im not a slomo guy.

Music
Very cool and set the mood. No complaints there.

Gun Blast
Kind of weak. I wanted more resonance.

Misc
The action sequence needed some tighter choreography as Jarred mentioned, seemed like it didnt work.

Great job overall and what a great story of conflict and relativity. Damn. The payoff is killer. Rings almost to true considering the last 48 hours. :o :(

I look forward to more work from you and......... Even Mr. Black. This is solid and my 'opinons' are merely my taste. I can toally see why this won awards. Better than anything Ive done which only serves to motivate!

NExt time I want Delta and Jihad going at it in a firefight!

Thanks John. Tell your friends! I'm glad you liked my acting. I was wearing too many hats on this one. I was going to direct it till the day before! I was trying to make something people would think about. We had to cut a lot of dialoge to make the 10 min. deadline. I almost posted a warning that this is a dialog drivin piece.

It was fine (just a little lonf IMHO). The subject matter is just really hits home and is well thought out and ballsy to do. Props to you for that sack check.

Dude, you totally played the CIA Spook well. Awesome.

Didn't get the chance to view the entire film as I got interrrupted, but from what I saw looked pretty good. Heavy topic, takes guts to deal with anything to do with what is going on with our global issues. Acting is pretty top notch, cinematography in nice, liked the set. With Jarred on the hands should have slammed onto the table when he threw him, continuity error, stands out, but then goes away once it picks up again. Curious, you won a whole bunch of stuff, but at what festival? And congrats of course.

I got a James Woods kind of vibe off you, man, which is cool!

Agree with John that the back-and-forth went a little long and probably strained believability.  I loved the gunshot next to the ear, though -- nasty and inventive.

(Here, by the way, it's an appropriate dramatic use of a gun!   ::) )

The constant sounds of gunfire outside -- I got the idea that this was an isolated building out in the middle of the desert, and there isn't really all that much happening out that way -- it's pretty much all in the larger cities.

Was hard to gague your ultimate point, if you really had one you were trying to make.  Seemed like the sheik had the upper hand in most of the conversation and ultimately won at the end, so should we take something from that?  

If not, you'd probably want to bolster the CIA guy's position a little better.

But great job.  Production-wise, it looked great.  Good acting.  Nice!  It further raises my hopes for the DVX User movie . . .

The scenes are great but the dialog is stilted boring bias. The actor who portrays the terrorist does a nice job.

You should of been at the shoot. It's 10:00 P.M. We stareted at 10:00 A.M. And I have this hood over my head and a guy swinging a machette' over my neck for multiple takes. Can't really hear it but I was crying saying "The Lords Prayer" Very scary!

Great job Elvis, nice research and scriptural quotations. I also like the delicate line you walked with the subject. I think that the acting was ok but I would have dirtied the whole thing up a bit more, any way, that would be in hindsight anyhow :P. I am dying to see more of your stuff!!! Keep it rolling!!!
