GH4 EF Lenses With Adapter

So I picked up an EF to MFT adapter (Not a speed booster) to use my Canon/Tamron EF lenses on my GH4. I've read online that you can set your EF lens aperture on a Canon body (for example, when shooting outdoors maybe f11 or something) and it would save that setting so you can use it at that aperture on the GH4. Well my lenses aren't doing that. I just tried it with my Canon 85mm 1.8 by setting it to f11 on my 6D then taking it off that body and putting on my GH4 and it's quite blown out indicating that it's stuck at 1.8. Am I missing something???

I think you have to make sure the lens is stopped down when you remove it.

IIRC, set the aperture in live view mode on the Canon, and remove the lens without powering down the body.

Otherwise the lens defaults to wide open and only stops down as a shot is about to be taken.

All of which is a massive PITA which is why I'd recommend a Speed Booster as soon as your funds can stand it. Mine's just arrived, can't wait to try it out!

Cheers, Hywel.

Ahhhh...that's the part I missed. I'll try that next. Yeah, considering a Speedbooster but might just get some fast MFT lenses. Decisions, decisions...

Shoot, that didn't work. I don't understand.

EDIT:
Switched to movie mode (probably what you meant when you said Live View) and it worked! Thanks for your reply!
