editting resume question

i have been looking at a lot of editting assistant gigs available out there and i am familiar with everything they are talking about with the exception of "string outs". what the heck is a "string out".
thanks all

"String out" is simply laying out the shots in the timeline. All the shots are in the timeline but none of them have been trimmed. A senior editor might tell the assitant editor, "Dige all the footage and string it out, I'll trim it up in the morning".

it has to do with my resume in that i want to feel confident that i know what a string out is when i respond to gig openings, via my resume.

also, thanks for the info guys! so it looks like a string out is a tv term for an assembly?

Unless you're working in LA or NYC there's no real benefit to being in the guild. It's a union thing, dig around on the site there's a page that has the entry requirements.

I avoid unions. Unless in LA or NY, you will always lose money by being in the union.
Whoever is willing to pay dues and work for fixed rates is qualified.
