Editing YouTube videos

Someone wants me to "audition" for editing by editing 4 camera angles. They're several hours away, so I suggested they host the videos on YouTube and I'd download them... but FCP doesn't digest FLV, and it takes FOREVER, literally hours, every time I make a cut to work with MPG. Any suggestions?

Put in on a filesharing site in mpeg4, for download. And then convert it to Prores yourself. I assume the quality will go down, but at least you will be able to edit ;)

btw, mpeg is a very compressed codec, it isn't made for editing. ProRes is.

Heh- isn't your reel good enough for them? Might not be a job worth taking....

You'd think. He said he's had several guys audition and they just "weren't right for the job," didn't do the kind of editing he liked. With 4 stationary camera and nothing really making the shots dynamic (basically, it looks like cable access angles from a live performance), I dunno what the hell he expects.

Quality isn't really an issue, he just wants to see what my edits look like. I also intend to slap a giant watermark across it. I tried MP4, and it took forever to render every edit I did. Mind you, I was laying all the shots ontop of eachother, and picking which angle I wanted to use for each shot, because... well, there's not much else to be done with it.

Oh man- walk away. You don't have to 'audition' for free on real editing jobs...
