Editing with HMC150 footage

Hey folks,

First time poster. I'm currently looking into an HMC150 mostly for short narrative movies. I'm wondering if my editing setup will do the trick. I have the following setup:

imac 2.8GHz Core 2 duo
2GB ram
running Final Cut Pro 5.1.4

I've been using it with SD mini dv footage exclusively.

Will I need to upgrade FCP to handle AVCHD?

FCP still can't edit AVCHD natively, so it needs transcoding. You need at least FCP 6.06 to transcode AVCHD to ProRes.

If you wait for a few weeks, we're expecting FCP 8 to be announced and many people think native editing may be included.

Alternatively, you can use one of several other tools (e.g. clipwrap) to transcode the footage in to ProRes for you and then edit in ProRes in FCP.

Your CPU should be OK but I recommend 4GB of ram minimum.

Since I don't have the camera, yet, waiting is not a problem. I didn't know there was a new FCP out imminently. I'm also sort of curious to see if NAB brings anything new on the camera front. Perhaps a successor to the HMC150? or a "b" version? Not in a hurry, so I can wait.
