Hey guys,
I did this video a while ago, and until recently, I've been uploading all my videos to YouTube using these exact settings in this video:
But, I realized recently when doing some testing with an Ipad and my iphone that because they default to HD when on a wireless account, versus 3G, I was surprised at how long it took to download the movies.
So, as mentioned in the video above, I had been using a target bit rate of 6-9 mbps, but I did some experimentation with this to monitor the file size and degradation of the video quality.
And, to my surprise, there's very little video quality degradation if I changed the target bit rate to 1 for both. So, instead of what the video mentions above of 6 and 9, I changed both to 1. The file size is a 5th of the file size, and now they load very easily on any type of mobile device, on or off a wireless account. And, the side benefit is that they take up a 5th of the space on your harddrive, as well.
Here's a link to some videos I did of the LA Auto Show using either the HMC40 or the TM700, essentially the same camera internals, as you all probably know. Both are shot using wide angle adapters, and for the most part in full auto, except when the lighting was drastically contrasty, I would manual adjust the iris. And, if you're wondering why some of the video looks like crap, that's because I was shooting the actually video screen that was playing due to a poor location where I was able to film from.

Those were all uploaded with a target bit rate of 1 and 1, instead of 6 and 9, and quite honestly, although the quality is slightly less, they still appear pretty darn good in full screen HD or even 480.
Hope this helps anyone using Premier...I know I'm happy to have figured this out, because if the videos we make take forever to download, my guess is people won't watch them.
