Editing Systems

thanks

thanks

Thank you all for your advice and comments. I'm going to try out a few different programs. I have been playing with a copy of final cut studio and am finding it very easy to use and it has everything that i need, but so does Adobe Premier 2. hmmm, decisions.

thanks

Look into Avid. It is very stable, and once you learn it you can get a your best work done in the shortest amount of time. For large projects nothing else comes close. Also, ingest of P2 footage is a no-brainer, there is no conversion.

That said, find what is most comfortable for you and use it. It is not about the tool, it is all about the storytelling.

Consider also, if you are only one going to be editing use what feels good and works for you. But if you are going to be in a position where you need to bring people in or rent your system out..the you should consider systems that are easy to find editors for and that are in demand. Avid editors are everywhere and FCP editors are too. I recently sold my edit systems FCP and Media100 and PC based AvidMediaXpress I could always find an editor for the Avid system and many of them had also added FCP to their bag of tricks. I went with a MacBook Pro and FCP because it had to be portable. But if you are not in need of a laptop and are considering going the Mac route the new big Imac 24" looks interesting for the money. You can get a 500 gig hd and it has an 800 fw bus for additional storage and excellent gfx. All in a small footprint on the desk.
