editing system for 1080/25p

I need an editing system for 1080/25p from a PAL HVX200. Lighting and colour correction is important, and I need to light the scene looking at the monitor to see what I'm doing in real-time, like I'd do with a minidv camera and a TV. I'm wondering can anyone recommend a setup?

Requirements:

-10 bit colour-correction; though, not an absolute requirement at the moment
-camera's plugged into the TV so you can see your lighting changes on the set, in real-time (ideally I'd like a HD image through a HD monitor)
-price: £2500 - £2600 computer (upgradeable) and editing software, £600 -> £800 for 2 HD monitors

I contacted Red Submarine at http://www.sub.co.uk/, who told me they could get the computer and software - in this case, Avid Xpress Pro HD- for £2300, or £3200 including monitors. DVC gave me a pricetag of £6500 (!)

As a footnote: when I call Avid and Adobe, I'm being recommended HP systems/Intel and apparently, buying an Athlon system is 'risky.' Anyone out there running Avid on an Athlon-based system?

You can use any Mac with a GPU and an Apple or Dell 23" or 24". FinalCut Studio is all you'll need on the siftware and you'll get the fantastic (imho) Color as part of the bargain.

I would recomend a desktop, as you WILL want an IO solution with a real broadcast monitor eventually...
But AJA io seems to solve that even for portabeles or iMacs.

You can also look into Matrox Axio running Premiere Pro, it handles 1080i as well as 720p and all other flavors of the HVX. Also VT5 will be released pretty soon, and it is supposed to handle all framerates and resolutions. The learning curve for Avid is pretty steep, I have 3 HD capable systems, Avid Xpress Pro HD, Matrox Axio LE and the soon to be Released VT5, all capable of HD and I'll let you know that I only edited 1 HD project on the Avid thus far, Matrox and Premiere is so much easier than Avid. Then there's VT by far the fastest system of the three. All I'm saying is do some research before you buy. By the way Avid Xpress Pro HD is 8 bit Matrox Axio is 10 bit, I'm not sure about VT5.

The Premiere Pro CS3 suite is probably the least expensive way to get a fully integrated editing suite. Windows hardware is cheap, and CS3 includes Premiere Pro editing software and also the utterly superb OnLocation, which will satisfy and far exceed your monitoring requirements.
