Editing Software Help

Okay, I'm a total newb so please be patient. I am getting more and more serious about filmmaking and would like to upgrade from my crappy little videocamera to something better. I have done some research, talked to some people, and found that the Panasonic DVX100B is the way to go. That is why I'm here in the first place. Now, as far as a good editing software is concerned, I don't know specifics. I have heard Final Cut Pro is good, but I don't want to have to buy a Mac if I don't have to (Right now). I'm only 16 and only have a budget of about $4000 total. I can get the DVX100B for $2k, and I need to buy other accessories such as tripods and whatever, but I still need some good editing software. I have also heard that Avid is extremely good. Is it hard to learn? What can I expect? I'm not a complete idiot, so I can probably figure out whatever comes at me, but I still want to get some nice software without wasting any precious money. I have heard I need to buy some hardware with avid. Do I absolutely need it? How much will that set me back? Please, give me any advice you have. Thanks in advance.

1st off You wont get a DVX100B for 2k.

Avid is not an easy or economical starter NLE. Avid pro is $1700 and Avid dv is $500 - I would recommend Sony Vegas + DVD. A very good program and has a few extra features to help. Audio and DVD programs.

Good luck

Yes, DVX100B for $2k

Yes, DVX100B for $2k

Okay thanks, and yes I can get a DVX100B for 2k. Try www.usaphotonation.com they have great prices for the more expensive equipment. I'll look into the Sony Vegas program thanks. If anyone else thinks different, please, post away.

Dakotapod is on target with his comments. For the scenario that you laid out Vegas is a great choice. 24p support, amazing audio tools built right in. When you start specializing and or doing more work then you can jump to a different NLE if you have the need, but Vegas is a very powerful tool, so you may never have the need.

Thanks

Thanks

Okay, thank you very much for the advice. I Don't know what I'd do without you all. Thanks again.

Aw, man! Never trust a vendor which won't give you a street address.

I'm guessing this is one of the Brooklyn scammers . . .

Lapp, Vegas is an excellent affordable solution for the DVX, you will find hundreds of people here on the site to support you with that or any other NLE solution you choose.

Definitely look into Vegas...I was a former Avid Pro user and glad that I switched a year ago...made my life a lot easier and also helped finish projects faster in order to move on to other things.

Lapp,

Look into Avid Liquid as well. Very economical, tons of very professional features. It may be just what you are looking for.
