Editing Setup Ideas!

Hey there,

I have been thinking about splashing some money on my editing setup.

So far, I have a list:

2 Meter long desk, straight
Imac 27" Intel Core I7 (does anyone know if there is a refreshed one coming? possibly with USB 3.0 and thunderbolt?) might upgrade to 16GB
Windows Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83ghz, 4GB Ram, Windows 7 (might upgrade to 8gb)
Apple Numeric Keyboard
Magic Mouse
2nd Screen (LG Flatron E2340T.. Already have this.)
2TB Western Digital External Hard Drive
Audio Mixer of some sort (Ideas welcome, must not break bank!)
Rode NT2-A studio microphone kit

Software wise:
Final Cut Pro
Logic Studio
After effects

So, can anyone give me some more Ideas on what to get, and especially reccomend me a good audio mixer for about 200 pounds, maybe less?

I am only 15 Years old, so lots of this is gonna be christmas and birthday.

200 lbs is a bit heavy for a 15 year old...

;-) Sorry, US humor. not funny in the UK.

I'd say not to bother with the mixer, but rather get yourself a good set of self powered near field monitors. (AKA speakers)

Mackie mixers are very good and start at fairly modest prices. Behringer has some very cheap mixers that are good for the price.

Should consider Adobe CS5 instead of Final Cut until FCP 8 comes out. Photoshop, Illustrator are very useful supplementry tools to Premiere (as well as After Effects of course).

So, this is where we are at the moment:

Looks good. Have you thought about an audio interface, rather than a mixer? Under 200 quid, there is a pretty big selection and this might be more versatile, depending on what you want to do.

As the man said! Look for a desk called: "Gallant" Many configurations available! Awesome desk! Now it needs to be loaded up with jog wheels, audio interface, mixers.....

Best cheap improvement: Set the mousy thing to the side and get a Shuttle Pro2.

If you have a bit more to spend on video monitoring, think Matrox MX02 and a decent LCD or plasma 1080 TV.

Monitors for sure, you don't need a analogue mixer. A digital mixer would be great for mixing audio within your DAW software.

A firewire interface that will also drive your audio monitors is nice. Think Apogee Duet if you are mac based.

The pen rocks on anything that needs masking or rotoscoping or paint strokes. I use the mouse more for most other things, but will often use the pen instead, especially if my wrist is fatigued. With dual monitors, the widescreen tablet is very fast to go across both monitors.

I use the Wacom Bamoo pen/touch tablet and love it. With one hand I can use the pen and without letting go, use two fingers for all the gesture based touchpad features.

Interesting, I have been using a Kennsington Turbo Trackball for years, and unlike a mouse, I can "paint" somewhat accurately with it as it has a pretty good control app. No doubt, the pen on a tablet would be better.

BTW, I have a 6x11 inch Intuos and 2 26" monitors. They no longer make the 6x11, but the current offerings are all quite good.
