GH13 Editing on a laptop

I need some advice.

Will I have any problems editing/colour correcting GH1 footage with Edius on a laptop with these specs?

Acer Aspire AS4752-6411 (Refurbished) Notebook
Intel Core i5-2450M 2.50 GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB HDD, DVD-Writer
14" HD LED Display, Intel HD Graphics, Windows 7 Home Premium

I plan to plug into a monitor at some points, but wanted to keep things small and portable.

I regularly edit on my Asus Zenbook Prime Notebook using Sony Vegas Pro and it runs fine. Howeer, this notebook comes with an Nvidia GeForce GT620M, which definitely helps during rendering. You may run into issues with your Intel HD graphics card though.

Hmmm, I wonder if the onboard graphics will be a problem... Has anyone edited with something like this?

I've never edited on anything that didn't have a dedicated graphics card. But if you're willing to wait a little bit for rendering-- between the processor and the amount of RAM, I think it would probably work alright. Check the requirements of the software that you intend to use and see if it has a hardware requirement to it. There will be a minimum and a recommended system specs. You usually want to at least fall somewhere in between those. If you don't meet them, then it's possible that it could still work, and it's possible that it just won't work at all.

I seriously doubt that you would be happy with that refurbished Acer. SuperSet's Asus Zenbook prime would have more performance advantages than just the dedicated graphics card, such as much faster disk storage. That refurb system might be able to get away with editing SD. But even that might be problematic without dedicated graphics. If you want to edit HD content, then I think you would find that computer to be very unsatisfactory.

You should probably follow up on the Grass Valley discussion forums about this, so you can be sure to get feedback from fellow Edius users:

I edit HD footage on a Gigabyte Q2532N with a Nvida GT540M card @1GB. However, I use Lightworks. Only times it struggles is if I blend two tracks for longer than 30 seconds (not use to live editing feature yet) it lags the video.

BUT, try tools like HDCinematics offers, which creates proxies and HQ render files. I can't comment on how Eduis handles offline editing and/or proxies.

EDIT: Oops, Intel Core i3 2410.

I edit with Premiere 6 on an i5 laptop with no graphics card all the time. You have to render the timeline periodically if you want smooth playback. Also, I use VERY few effects, virtually none, which probably plays into me being able to do it.
