Editing m2v files

Does anybody know what NLE (if any) allows to edit and output m2v's directly without re-encoding (in other words without additional quality loss. I have a dvd project that I did and it needs to be changed a bit but m2v's is all I got at this point. I was wondering if there is an easy way out.

Did you try changing the file extension to .mpg?
I recall doing this once with a TMPGENC file.
