editing in a 23.98 timeline, outputting 29.97 ?? FCP

Can anyone point me in the direction of understanding how to propperly add a 3:2 pulldown, and turn 23.98 footage into 29.97 (or 59.97) for output?

I shot 720/24PN for storage reasons, and am now cutting in that format (23.98 timeline)

I noticed I have an issue when I went to out put a rough cut on DVD, so I copy pasted the contents of my 720/23.98 time line into an NTSC 29.97 time line, and exported a quicktime to author an SD DVD.
All seemeed fine, until I noticed there were black flash frames all over the place between shots, where apparently FCP attempted to make up for the frame rate difference?

Anyway - my ultimate goal is to output 1080i 29.97 or 59.97 or whatever...
clearly I am not sure what the heck I am doing...

thanks for any help.

If you're going to DVD, you'll want to encode off a 23.98 sequence. Your MPEG will look much much better.

It may be ghetto but I usually export quicktime move and make a master file in the native codec and fame size. From there I either use compressor, or I'll created a new sequence with the desired settings in FCP, and import the newly created master file.

This probably isn't the "best" way to do things, but it's how I do them.

I'm sure some one will stroll along here in a few minutes and call me a "noob",... again.
