I have a problem and hope one you guys or girls out there could help me with it. I am editing my 24P footage with Avid Express DV 4.6; I noticed when I output my source to burned onto DVD my footage looks to have horizontal lines in it (not consistant but enough to notice), is it because of camera movement or something else? I hope someone else has experience this and resolved this matter, please respond ASAP I would greatly appreciate it, thanks a lot for your time and knowledge.

I got the similar problem. Do you edit your film in 30i? If yes, your footage is progressive and you edit the project in 30 interlace, so it's normal. When you make a dvd, to see horizontal lines in that setting. To fix this problem, when I export the footage to make the DVD, I exported the project as a Quicktime reference. After, I use the reference and make my m2v file with TmpegEnc. In the setting of that software, I use a filter "deinterlace". Depend on the footage, you can dramatically reduce the number of horizontal lines (I think I used the Even field, but I'm not sure).

After, I make my DVD and I saw pratically no horizontal lines.

Hope this info will help you.

"make my m2v file with TmpegEnc. In the setting of that software, I use a filter "deinterlace". Depend on the footage", Please have patience with me but I kinda understand some of that what you said but not fully sure how you make the TmpegEnc and where do you "deinterlace". Is this in the Avid Xpress DV 4.6 software or is this something extra I need to go purchase. Again, please forgive my lack of knowledge in this aspect of video production. thanks again for responding.

I have figured it out; atleast I got my final output to a very satisfactory level...what I did was just exported it out as a Quicktime reference file and change my setting to progressive in the Avid. I really have no clue how all of that made a difference but it worked. Thanks again.
