editing dvx footage.

to my understanding editing on a laptop(lcd) doesnot provide a true representation of how the colours will look on the television (correct me if i am wrong). So can one use a normal SD tv with an s video link and plug into ur laptop to editing with? i kinda want a cheapo but reliable way of editing.
 
thanks for the relpy...have a couple more questions.

1.k so lemi get it straight....laptop>>firwire>>camera>>s video>> tv. yes?

2.Will be using a cheap mini dv cam...this is ok right? or wud i hav to use the dvx

3.Why cant u do it straight from the laptop?

4. I cant seen to quite get it...as in will i be able to edit and view it real time or i;d have to edit then view (which would be a hassle)

5. when u say preview out, is that a setting i put the cam on? (vcr mode?)

6. is there a way of properly calibrating the colours on the tv for it to be true

Sorry for the barage of questions...but i really do need to know. thanks in advance
