Editing desk suggestions WTB

Hello gentleman. Hope all is well. I've been away for awhile. Traveling, working and ultimately moving to the country.

I'm due for a new editing desk and was looking for opinions, or perhaps anyone in the ct/ny area looking to sell?
apologies, I'm on my iPhone w/o real computer for a few more days. I did a search....some good info but most treads were from 2006 or earlier! Terry had a link to a very nice desk, but I think it's out of my price range. : )

there is an ideal model I saw on b&h, about 15 hundred bucks (I'm looking to spend a bit less if possible). Ideally, a desk with the raised tier for dual monitors & speakers. And I'm still gonna rock my Mac Pro for a few more years.

I use a dining room table I bought at World Market for $500, with a hutch for $130. I put the speakers on the hutch and the monitors directly on the table in front of it (being a table, not a desk, there's plenty of room). Wall-mounted HDTV behind it all.

dave, judging by the archives, you've had that world market setup for some time!
 
Do you want to do it yourself at all? I went to a custom countertop place and had them make me a huge 7x11' corner setup for my small office for $400! I put 2x4s into the wall, placed the countertop on the 2x4s and then added some table legs to support the outer edges. No way could I have had this large of a setup for $500 or under with a pre-made desk.
 
Try looking at ikea.com. They have components where you can assemble your own. I have a 78 inch desk top with 3 steel legs and set of drawers on the other end (middle leg it half way to back and does not get in the way). I had to assemble it but it was a great bargain at $160.00. You could add an inexpensive monitor shelf and you're good to go. If that is not long enough then add two end to end or in an L shape.

Perrone, thank you thank you. I was able to order an Omnirax Omnistation at a cut rate from Guitar Center. Maybe I'll post a picture when everything is set up.

David, no young guy here, I'm 42. (I too am tired of hearing about young people who make it big at 18, 22, whatever) jk. I have bad vision but worse posture, so best to keep the monitors elevated, otherwise I'm really hunched over.
 
Scott, which is the Omnistation, or is it discontinued?

Oh, and I'm old (got you beat by 15 buddy, and a birthday in 5 days... sigh) and I like my monitors right at eye level- best for the eyes and neck... :shocked:

Back posture, sometimes that can be a conscious matter of discipline that's up to you. :)

And a good chair.

Ooops, actually it's the OMNIDesk workstation. It definitely seems to fit the bill. A few rack mounts, space to store mac tower and a bridge for monitors & speakers

The product pic shows optional end tables & a keyboard tray which i don't need, can't afford, and probably wouldn't have space for.
 
Too late for Scott, but for anyone else looking for a desk...stop looking and start building!
Here's my current desk that I built last summer. Eight feet wide to handle multiple monitors and keep my MacPros off the floor and most importantly...Cable management built in!

Nice nice nice. My *current* setup (as we unpack) is a Macbook pro on a KidKraft play table. Anything to get the job done.

To answer groveChuck's question, GC may come down on the price a bit if you're nice to them on the phone.
 
Here's one I build myself, as I needed to pack it in a corner in my previous room:

3 RCA audio connectors, to plug the speaker on top, while the cable below are plugged into the computer directly.

Perfectly suited for multi-screen setup. Enjoyed it when I had 3 monitors!

Minimal space required in the corner, maximum working space on it.

Cable management, makes it easy to install or remove a component with all the plugs on top of it:

But I'm now thinking about making another one (as I don't have much corner where I live actually) that will be flat and plain on the width. Andrius' idea is pretty sweet yet simple to do.
I wanted to have an additional section on top of it, with rackmount dimensions in it, in case I'd add an external audio interface. I'll see.
