Editing Controllers?

Hi all --

I am entering post production and are thinking whether I should invest in a hardware editing controllers to have a better work flow.

How does your editing bay look like?
Do you have editing controllers?

I am thinking about buying a Euphonix MC Transport and an MC Color for color grading. Any experience with these?

Thanks!

Editing controllers are used primarily to operate VTR's (in the analog world) and perhaps digital decks also. If you are doing computer based non-linear editing I believe you are looking for jog/shuttle controllers (to advance your clips in the timeline, mark in & out points, etc.). For this, I use Contour Designs Shuttle Pro2. It looks like that is what your MC Transport is. The MC Color is a control surface for use with Apple's Color app and similar programs. I haven't used the MC products but the transport is probably ok. Not sure about the color controller.
Maybe this is what you mean by "editing controller".

Late to the party. But, I recently added the MC transport and MC color to my editing desk. After one week and grading two projects with the MC color, my grading process time has halved. It almost feels like youre really painting the image - I will never use a mouse for grading again, except for: MC Color has a control for creating vignettes. Shaping them on the MC colour is really nice, but creating them on the control surface seems counter intuitive.

The MC transport kicks ass.

For me the keyboard is my 'editing controller.' But a control surface is highly useful for grading as is a mixing control surface for heavy duty sound work.
