Editing anamorphic footage on the fs700

Hi all,

So I'm completely new to anamorphic shooting and I'd like to shoot my next client's project with the fs700 anamorphic.
I'm using the Letus anamorphx adapter. States that it does 1.33x.

I've done some test shots, and I've figured out how to modify/squeeze the footage in premiere pro. My problem is this: I'm planning on mixing regular 1920x1080 footage without the anamorphic adapter in with the rest of the footage since I won't be able to use the adapter for every shot i'll be getting. So far the only way I've figured out how to do this is when I bring the normal footage into the anamorphic timeline the video is square. So I increase the size of the image until it fills up the video space and then it looks like a normal 1920x1080 shot that's been cropped. The problem with this is that I'm blowing the image up A LOT in order to get it to fit this space, which causes a big loss in resolution/quality. How can I do it the other way around? From what I understand technically I should be able to have a regular 1920x1080 sequence and be able to put my anamorphic footage on there and resize/modify/squeeze it to fit and I wouldn't lose quality in that timeline with both anamorphic and regular footage correct? But I just can't figure this out.

Is there also any kind of option in the Fs700 to view the footage squeezed so I can tell what my framing is going to look like?
Not sure if I did a good job explaining what I'm trying to do haha, but if anyone has experience with editing anamorphic footage I would greatly appreciate some help.

Cheers!

Try to take all your anamorphic shots first into an anamorphic timeline, then export it without compression. Then bring those shots into your 1920x1080 timeline. You'll be shrinking the anamorphic I stead of blowing up the 1920 stuff. You'll have different matte sizes, but that can be ok. I do it often and it actually can serve an emotional/perceptive purpose. Otherwise, you can crop according to your needs to them all.

Id also recommend color and grading the anamorphic in DaVinci Resolve, then exporting your files over...so you can save rendering speed when you're actually editing.

Mai hope that works for you. Good luck and congrats on the new gear!
