Editing 5D footage in FCP

I don't know what setting you guys are using to edit your 5D footage in but I used streamclip to convert my footage to prores422 and editing in fcp is a b*tch. Literally anytime I move any clips around in my sequence I get the red line at the top of the sequence and have to wait 5 minute for it to render. Is there any other possible way I could temporarily lower the resolution to my clips just to let me edit faster and then convert it back to original prores422 when im done?

The behavior you're describing would suggest that your timeline and clips are mismatched. Make sure you're timeline settings exactly match the format of the video you are putting in it - frame size, pixel aspect ratio, frame rate, audio rate, etc.
What you're describing is definitely not the typical experience when using ProRes in FCP.

Well when i drop in my prores footage it says it automatically changes the settings for me. Is there something I should do after that?

check your sequence settings. i had the same problem. the sequence would adjust itself to 30p when i shot at 24. once you make the change, all is right with the world.

Can you tell me your exact settings? I shot my footage 24p 1080 and shot some 30p and slowed it down in cinema tools to 23.98. How come you are supposed to change your sequence settings when it says it takes care of it automatically when you drag footage to the timeline?

Do I change my sequence to prores422? or H.264? What should be the exact settings? k thanks

The timeline needs to match the codec of your source material as well as the frame rate, size, PAR, audio sample rate, etc. Just check the properties of your footage and see if it syncs up with what you think it should be. If not, then double check your workflow, you might be changing it in a way that you are unaware of. Normally, FCP auto adjusts the timeline and it all works fine - you've got something strange going on.

You said you had transcoded the footage to ProRes, and if that's the case, then the sequence should be set to expect ProRes as well. BTW, shooting at 30p and slowing down to 24 is pretty much a waste of time. If you want slow-mo, you have to have a camera that shoots at a higher frame rate or else just use FCP to slow-mo your 24p. 60p to 24 - that's worth it, but 30p to 24p is not for 6 more frames a second.

right click on one of the clips on your timeline. and it should say something like "settings" where you can see what that clip is set to in all aspects. match that with the sequence settings.

I did set the setting to prores422 1920x1080 24p 48khz and it is really hard to work with, every edit I do requires minutes of rendering. Ugh...what is wrong? Are you guys getting this kind of problems?

You want to get the free plug in to import your clips through log and transfer from canon its much faster than stream clip

Well is it going to make it faster for me to render my clips when i edit them? cause waiting 3 minutes every time you make a tiny edit it ridiculous.
