I'm using Avid XPRESS PRO 5.7.2.
I understand that according to workflow charts, P2 footage shot at 1080/24 must be edited on a 30 or a 60 timeline.
I noticed that the P2 viewer says under "codec": DV100 60i about footage surely shot at 1080/24. Why does it not say DVCPro HD?
Is this because the HVX is always shooting 24p /w pulldown onto 60i format?
Furthermore, Avid recognizes the footage as 30. Okay so what are we dealing with, 24, 30, or 60? ? :O
I have so far been importing the footage to a 60 timeline but I mean is there some reason I shouldn't (a good reason)? Sometimes I have felt like the footage had some video like motion blur but it could have just been the shutter speed. The easiest way I found to address clips like this was to add a subtle strobe motion effect for every couple frames.
Anyway so far I need an output of 30 but what about in the future when we need to export/render the video as 24p for festival projection? The workflow just seems peculiar to me that it provides for the ability to work at a 720/24 native timeline but not one for 1080? What are the reasons for this?
Thanks!
