Edit - Master - Deliver HD projects

Now that cameras are shooting, I wanted to start a discussion about how best to edit/master/deliver this great HD footage to clients.

Does any particular EDITING time base work better in certain delivery cases (DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, SD Broadcast, HD Broadcast)? Is there a website with the criteria for these?

I shot some 720p/24 native footage and threw it on a DVD to see what would happen. The result looked like the encoder interlaced the footage. The motion looked fine but the image looked like garbage.

Thanks everybody.

How did you make the DVD? If you edited on a 24p timeline and output a 24P DVD it should do a frame-accurate DVD with no interlacing at all.

My inital test used iDVD......looking for a quick way to burn footage. Then I moved up.

At this point I have output a 720p/24 timeline to a Quicktime. Then used Compressor to make an MPEG-2 file. The file plays fine on the computer through VLC. I have not had a chance to burn it with DVD Studio Pro and check it in the home player.

Compressor recogized the progressive Quicktime and the 23.98 frame rate. I just chose the High Quality DVD setting (not the HD DVD settings). Like I said, the file plays fine. Compressor seems to have scaled the video to 720x404. Not sure how 16x9 would work in compressor with HD footage yet.
