Edit in low res, then put together lossless originals. How to?

Hello, I've read in some old thread that I can't find that some of you do it this way.
I couldn't find any method to do it.

I'm on the avisynth + virtualdub workflow, with the use of gradation curves I can prepare quite finite lossless clips, usually being Lagarith the intermediate codec.

For editing I used Videopad, but it converts the files in comrpessed before editing, then seems to merge and just recompress the already compressed.

I would like to just edit with very low res of my clips and then use the lossless clips together just at final encoding time.

Is this possible someway?

Thanks in advance.

not sure if its the same but i used to use proxies in premiere pro where i would export as low res do my basic edits then make the media offline and back online with new original file location. the file names have to be the same for it to work seamlessly.

That's it. 'Proxies' is the right word.

I'm looking for a way to make proxies to use them for timeline editing, and then render using the originals.

I wasn't able to find any information about a confortable workflow.
