Edit framerate of MTS files?

Is it possible to edit the attributes of a mts file to change its framerate? I was just wondering about this because of the GH2's 80% record mode, and whether it would be possible to just change the resulting files' metadata to say that they're actually 29.976fps? I know it's possible to just do it in editing software, but it would be cool to make some kind of batch process that changes them automatically. :)

On the Mac with Final Cut after you have imported & converted to ProRes using Log & Transfer it's easy enough to use Cinema Tools for conform to whatever frame rate you want. It is instant as all it does is flip some bits in the header of .MOV file.

Yeah, I know you can do it in editing software, but I'm wondering whether it's possible to edit the header of the actual MTS files. :)
