i would have preferre to have the delay rather than the strobes
but here the question isn't ambiguous
if i don't feel the delay and the difference between 25 and interlace there's some difference between ours cameras... and i think that the A cannot be worse than the 100
I can only repeat I did hear the delay on a DVX100, too...and the Panasonic technicians heard it on another 100 and a 100A...and they said it's normal for progressive... ???
I just found this discussion, so, sorry for the delay in the answer. The DVX100 when in 24P did not have a delay in the audible audio during record but it did have an offset on tape of about 2 - 2 1/2 frames. The reason for that delay is the processing that happens with the video in progressive mode and laying down the pull down pattern.
This frustrated many, so when Panasonic Engineers devised the AJ-SDX900, they decided that if they put a delay line in with the audio so that the timing on the tape would be closer to where it should be. This resulted in everyone hearing a slight delay in the audio channels. This method, while initially different in getting used to hearing the audio this way, worked better for having the audio be where it should be on tape.
So in the revised AG-DVX100A, the engineers thought that this method should be used and thus we have some of the group that have DVX100s that have no discernible delay while recording, and those that have a delay during record with the DVX100A. Nothing is wrong with either camcorder it is only two different ways of handling the audio function.
I would imagine in the PAL domain DVX100A, that there would be a very slight audible delay in the 50i mode but a longer delay in the 25P mode. Just as here, in the 60i mode, there is maybe a 1/2 frame delay and with the 24P it becomes about 1 frame. That 1/2 frame delay is about typical for any Camcorder, be it Digi Beta or DVCPRO or DV. It is virtually non discernable.
Hope this helps everyone just relax, nothing is wrong, it is just different from the way it was in the first version.
has anything changed in the PAL version of the "A", or is it all the same as before? because as much as i know (and experience) there is no delay whatsoever in 25P (on my DVX100E) not in monitoring and not in recording (or am i missing here something???)
second thing, those who complaining are pointing a much longer and noticeable delay in the DVX100AE. would a longer than 1 frame delay considered a problem then?
The PAL A version I believe would follow the NTSC pattern, and I think Veganway said theirs did. I really don't know for sure as I have never seen a PAL DVX A or non A.

Precisely, even if, actually, it seems more than 1/2 frame and 1 frame to me (and to a couple of sound engeneers that heard the "issue")... :-/
Shai....I really have no clue on why your camera has no delay.... ???
I recorded a video with DVX100a in 30P using a wireless lav mic in the actor, I could hear a delay in the headphone all the time. Playing back the tape the audio is in sync with video, but live there was a delay (first I was hearing the live actor, then his sound delayed in the headphone)
You guys know that Barry covers this issue in his book on page 22/23. This book is great, just got it and about half way through it now. I've had my 100a for almost a year now and can't believe how much I've learned in the past couple of nights reading this book. OK - book plug done..........
Paraphrasing the book "The reason is because of the way the camera buffers video frames for the 2:3 pulldown while writing the audio directly to tape."
There's 1.5 pages of explaination. Too much to type all here.
Rest assured it's annoying but easily adjusted in post on the 100 and not a problem on the 100A. The echo is there on the 100A live but should play back with no sync problem.
