Wanted to let folks know about a recent/current scam on ebay. I tried to buy a DVX 100a from a guy who goes by the screen name of "bcbaca", it's a scam and he's a con artist. He's not a very good con artist but he tried pretty hard.
Claims to be selling a lightly used camera, I bid on it, got outbid by almost $800.00, after the auction closed I recieved what turned out to be a fraudulent offer for a "Second Chance" sale. At least some of if not most of the bids that posted after mine were incredibly obvious shill bids placed by the same guy no doubt. According to ebay, the whole deal is fake.
I also got a come-on from a fake Western/Union operation. This one tried to tell me that I had to use their service in order to purchase the camera from my pal "bcbaca", this also proved to be a fraud.
"bcbaca" claims to be in Mesquite, TX, he also claimed that he had a family emergency and lo and behold he was now in London, England and his "wife" would be shipping me the camera just as soon as I sent them the money thank you very much etc. Interesting attempt but fortunately no money was sent from me. Ebay has now opened up an official investigation, doubt that there's anything that they can do but at least it's now in their files.
If you see someone on ebay claiming to be selling a DVX100a with only 19 hours on it and some extra batteries, it's probably the same guy trying again.
