Ebay Purchase?

This may be a stupid question, but I need to ask it. I found an original DVX100 used for sale at amazon for $2,000. But I've never bought anything from amazon, let alone an expensive camera, which means I've never bought anything used from them either. Can I trust it? Or is it as shady as ebay?

From what I understand, Amazon is very reputable. The only thing is, they also sell, or link to, 3rd party websites, which could be grey market, Im not sure though

I bought my cams from a grey market dealer Global Media Pro based in New Zealand. Since the cameras aren't supported by Panasonic Australia warranty, for an extra $70 each I was able to buy extended warranty from MACK who pay for any camera warranty claims for two years.

Also the cameras always came in new sealed boxes with all accessories and nothing suspicious as reported by some of the posts here.

I don't know if my heart could take the stress of buying an expensive cam on e-bay.

I bought my FX1 from one of the store on eBay. Yea, they made me called and attempted to sell me a bunch of stuff, but the final price was still below street price. The camera arrived on time with all the accessories. I ended up selling it after about six months so never have the chance to find out if the warranty actually works.

But basically if you're tempted to go the eBay route and choose one of the power sellers on there there's a good chance that the transaction will go fine. Don't follow their instruction to call the store and "confirm" anything, just pay right away through paypal and that way they won't have a chance to sell you more stuff. The camera probably won't have a warranty but then it's up to you to evaluate the risks of actually breaking it within one year. If it's worth it to you then go for it.

Just a comment from the other side of the eBay equation:

I've sold many items there by describing them accurately, maintaining a 100 feedback rating, etc. Basically, I try to follow the Golden Rule, as old fashioned as that may be.

I was looking at eBay today to see what I might ask for the 100A I bought from EVS, if I actually let myself buy an HD camera. And what I saw was discouraging...it seems like there's hardly any market for them. Even people with low starting prices and 100% ratings rarely sell them.

I don't know if this is because there are so many dishonest sellers, or the 100A is just too far past its prime. But it make me think I should just keep it as a backup, because I'd probably have to sell it for next to nothing. AND this is a camera that's never rolled a tape, because I've always captured to an nNovia drive or DV Rack! A pity, huh?
