Ebay cheap dslr rig - looks cool

Yup, saw it the other day. It looks like it would be great to travel with. Im gonna grab one in the next couple days just to check it out.

I know... I am very curious about it. But few things i am not too cazy about already. I want to know if i can install a plate so that i can mount the rig with the camera on a tripod withoug taking off the cam every time. Secnd i question the quality, are these handles going to get loose, is it possible to tighten them...

The rig is definitely a rip off the dvtec multirig pro... But how good is it?

I may just go for it and try, i mean at that price....

Beware. Most of that Chinese stuff is priced appropriately. Their machining is often junk. I used a rickety and loose Wondlan rig for a critical hand-held shoot a few months ago, and afterward no longer begrudged investing in Zacuto despite the high cost of their bomb-proof, US milled and manufactured gear.

This kit may be the exception, but most of this imported discount stuff is of a noticeably lower quality.

It's cheap enough not to matter too much, either way. I wouldn't mind having one alongside my normal rig, since it's so compact and adaptable. It appears reasonably well put-together.

I have the original DV Multirig, which is not compatible with their current tirpod quick-release mounting dock. When the Multirig first came out, it was said to be compatible with tripod quick release plates hence the mounting dock was not needed. Unfortunately, as it turned out I was one of the early adopters, and have a Vinten Vision 3 tripod. The plate on the Vinten wasn't compatible as the mounting screw/pin are fixed in a position, and the plate is long enough that it couldn't be mounted without blocking access to the threading receptacle for the spring loaded pod. I tapped/drilled an extra hole on the tripod mounting area to make it possible to mount my plate; however, this then wouldn't allow you to use the shoulder mounting configuration (which I did not purchase).

In any case, I'm in the market for a DSLR rails/rig setup and want to keep the spring-loaded pod, plus the compactness of the Multirg setup, and the free-flowing adjustment of the arms to the most comfortable holding position.

As it is, it does not appear that DV Tech sells the shoulder mounting upgrade as a later add-on option.

Basically, thanks for bringing this "knockoff" to my attention. From the looks of it, here's what you're sacrificing...no spring pod, no accessory mounting attachments included, AND, most importantly, NO real tripod quick-release mounting capability.

This is a HUGE reason not to buy. The actual quality of the unit, I would not be *that* worried about. This isn't the kind of item, where machining tolerances are of a critical level as with a follow focus.

Honestly, this is NOT something I would recommend buying. I think you would be far better served purchasing the Multrig brand new. While it is more expensive, it comes with mounting accessories, shock pod, and a very nice tripod quick-release docking station option for not a whole lot more.

This is one of those items that on paper seems like a good value until you look a little closer. You'll regret not saving up a little more in this case, no doubt about it in my mind.

For me, however, I think it's worth purchasing if DVTec won't sell me the shoulder mount attachment by itself.

I have a drill press, so I'm reasonably sure I could retrofit this plus my original DV rig to give me what I want...an uber totable, flexible, and well to-do performing, Swiss army knife, of run n' gunning rigs.

awesome price. With two hands on the rig handles though, I need a third hand to focus pull. Do they sell thoseon Ebay too?

well i just bought one....as the exorbitant prices at my hardware store were going to produce a cost only $20 less for a DIY PVC shoudler rig....

Hey Robo, Let us know what you think and what you are using it with...

will do, it should come sometime this week....the only concern I have with it is the strength of the joints where you tighten them to configure it....if they come loose too easily the whole thing will just flop around....

as for what I'll be using it with

- t2i
- 50mm 1.8 lens (with cinemorph filter)
- rode videomic (attached the camera's hot shoe)
- AGC disabler cable + little mp3 player for the dummy tone (www.dslrcable.com)

looking at the pics of it on the listing, this one in particular:

makes me think it might be possible to use a quick release plate to mount the camera to it, as it just seems to go through the slot up the front, in which case I can just have it on the tripod already set up and then just pop it off to go handheld....

So funny, this is exactly what I was looking for too. No wai I want to take the camera on and off the rig/tripod plate.

well it arrived this morning and here's my first thoughts.

- the box and the rig itself was bigger than i was expecting, but its a really good size
- it all feels really solid and doesn't feel like it would break
- the joints tighten really tight and barely move with the camera on (they may move a teeny bit though)
- there are a crap tonne of threaded 1/4 inch holes for accessories, in the ends of every arm, and at the joints...aaand...one in the bottom of the thing you attach the camera to, so it can be put on a tripod...huzzah
- I tried a few of the configurations and they all feel comfortable to use

i'm quite happy with the purchase, I'm yet to try any recording with it, but i just walked around with it and it seemed to keep it quite stable.

i'll get some pics later
