This seems way to cheap, which makes me confused. Is this for real? Here is what I asked the seller and we will see how he responds...

I am considering an educational Avid XPress Pro application. I need to be able to edit DVCPRO-HD so Liquid and Mojo are out of the question. I already have Avid XPress DV 3.5 Educational. I might as well stay on educational software because I am still in school.

I'm just wondering how you can offer XPress Pro HD 5.5 for only 300$...??? Its nearly 2k on the avid website. Is It true that I can really get away with purchasing an educational system for 1700$ less? I just want to make sure in the end I will have the same software as the advertised "Avid Xpress DV v1-v4.5 to Avid Xpress Pro v5.6 upgrade Price $495.00" from Avid's website which is what I need.

I am on a dongle system from way long ago, prob 2002. Since then its got a new motherbaord w PCI Express, P4 3.14 MHZ 1GIG ram and decent vid card.

I know playback is going to be chunky with my system but I can deal, is this all cosher?

The educational version of Xpress Pro is $295 from Avid themselves and is the same software as the $1700 version. You just run into a different license agreement with the educational software (can't make money with it).

If you're happy with edu software for now, why not just order straight from Avid? I know that having a full non-edu version for the same price is tempting, but as the saying goes if it sounds too good to be true....

it was 495 from avid's site...did I pick out the wrong upgrade? but of course id rather buy from them!

Actually you might check with Avid about that upgrade for $495. In the past they've allowed Edu. software to be upgraded to the fully licensed software for just the upgrade price. If you're interested in that, that is.
