easyest way to downconvert

hi guys,
i have a half hour interview that was shot by mistake on 720 30p and need to downconvert it to dvcpro 50. the footage is on a client´s pc running avid xpress pro 5.1.4 , and i don´t have much time to experiment now. tryed to export with some quick time codecs but it takes too long and seems to be loosing quality after importing on an hd project exporting to sd and reimporting on the dvcpro50 project . does anybody know a good and sure way to do it?
thanks.

Try exporting a QuickTime reference of your HD clip, and then jump into your SD project and try to import it. Set your import settings to DV50 MXF. Not sure if that'll work or not, but it's worth a try. If it works, it'll be just about the cleanest transcode you can get, because you're skipping the intermediate file--the QT reference is simply a pointer to the original HD video data. It'll still take awhile, if it does do the trick.

Here's another thing you can try, though it's a total shot in the dark: try opening the bin(s) that contain your HD clips in your SD project. Select the hamburger menu in your project window, select "Open Bin", then navigate to where your projects are stored and open the appropriate bin. The bin will open without issue. Now, here's the iffy part: see if you can play back a clip. More than likely, it'll say something about frame rates not matching--BUT, if it does play back, you can select all those clips and transcode them to DV50 inside your SD project. This is even better than the first solution, not necessarily from a quality standpoint (they should be identically) but it's less muss-and-fuss.

Hope one/both of these works!

thanks for the help cbrougham,
i´m gonna have to do it on monday in the client´s facility and as i´m on the road, dont have a workstation to try it first, but sounds like a good idea. have anyone worked with the NDxHD codecs and consolidate/transcode option on avid? i was doing some research and think that might be the right way to go...
