Easy Question Please Help!!

What brand and model number?

I don't thinkI've seen a professional shotgun with that sort of switch, and I've seen a lot of shotguns.

The M probably has more low frequencies.

I'll bet you $1 that it's a bass-cut... they are saying to run it "full range" for music or with a low cut for for "voice"... as Cyclone is saying.

Plug it in and point at anything with a bass source... like a car engine running... pop on some headphones... flip the switch.

lo cut almost all the time unless you have a specific goal with the low frequencys. When you're recording voice, theres pretty much no info at very low frequencys, so you're just letting in rumble and other, well, crap, into the track you record.
