East coast Hardcore band ...

Nicely edited. Not my fav music type, but the video is respectable. I think the one thing that you need to make this look like a pro video (dont we all need one?)... you guessed it, a depth of field adapter. Man this video would have kicked with one of those. It had all the other elements of a well-shot video. Congrats man.

For future music videos, I would shoot in other locations to intercut or even build in a storyline that we can follow. After about the first half, it was the same stuff over and over again. Change in scenerey or something to pay attention to (the story) would hold people's attention better. And, if you had a story, you could use it as a platform to try out some cool cinematic stuff if you wanted to...

Hey dude,

I like the location and the 60i close shots of the singer. They add a great energy and look awesome. But a lot of the rest of the video just didn't hold for me. You Have a clear image, and nice cam movement but something doesn't click for me yet.

I'd do some serious CC and re-editing. You have a great location that's not being exploted for it's look. and some of the cut aways felt sloppy to me and interupt the flow. i tlooks like you save some great footage, I'm just not feeling your cut.

I think you're in great shape so far and I like that it's performance only but I think you need to re-edit.

My two cents. Take em or leave em.

I dont think it has anything to do with the edit he has, just the repetitiveness of the footage shot. Again, I think exploration of another location to splice in would help break the monotony.

yo yo!

Thanks for the feedback so far ... keep it coming!!!

Chris: Yeah, story line/conceptual stuff. The song is so quick that I went with just slammin performance. I was gunna throw in a bit of slo-mo, but again, because its so fast I want it to just be PUNCH PUNCH! Plus, these guys rolled into NYC and rolled back out all in about 7 hours .. so .. nuf said! Just nailed it!

Rook: No 60i brutha. All 24P at 250/500! CC...hmm... well, I did color correct .. very carefully I might add! But if you mean just slap some filters on or something .. I'd definitely disagree. I think it has a sweet tone to it now. Nice earthy tones, grays, greens, etc. What does "re-edit" mean???

Invision: What's a cut-away? Do you mean my transitions in post or the intentional camera movement aways from band members? Help me out there...

Like I mentioned .. I have to tighten up some of the edits (singer doesn't sustain the notes in some cases, etc.).

HIT me back!

I'd keep the color correction as is. I think it was carefully chosen and looks good. Some of the edits need to be tightened up as you said. But overall it worked nicely. The close up, shaky shots had a great effect. What did you do to achieve this? Did you literally just shake the camera? I guess with the high shutter speed it kept things from blurring which is what sold the effect. People mentioned above using different locations or cutting to a storyline that people can hold on to. I disagree. That may work, but it could be merely an easy way out. You've got a great location, so explore it more. The main problem is that the video doesn't build, it just staying at the same pace. To keep our attention it has to go somewhere and right now it just doesn't do that. I'm not sure what other footage you have, it may call for reshoots, but I'd urge you to play with it some more.

Hey,

I thought this was pretty good although there were some things that sorta bothered me. First of all, this has nothing to do with you but I found it hard to concentrate with that music haha. I really dont like that style of music at all so that threw me off. The first filmmaking thing I noticed was that I felt like I wanted a wider shot of that location. It was a really cool location but I felt like I wasnt seeing it all at any point. Also I felt like the vid had no linear feel, it didnt start somewhere and end up somewhere else which I felt I wanted to see some of. I think a storyline might not be the worst idea if you can do it, just to make it fee like the video is moving forwards.

Overall though looks pretty professional

i like the look. maybe mix in some different looks to make up for only one location??? also, i am a big fan of the high speed shutter look too but when it's used for the entire video like this, it loses it's effect which is intensity in movement. not to mention that when mixed with the cool shaky handheld shots, it almost got me sick watching it. kinda like blair witch ya know...motion sickness. i'd use the fast shutter more for the intense parts and a slower shutter for the rest. nice overall though.

Toaster,

Not 601? Wow the fast shutter looks awesome.

As far as the CC goes...if you are digging the look then by all means keep it. All the shots match in color so that was not my problem. My feeling, and please don't be insulted by this, was that the color palate looked like degrassi jr. high or some other canadian television. Just not my taste.

When I said re-edit I just thought you could do a better job. Maybe I'm talking out my ass and maybe we just have different tastes. I just thought the footage looked better than the cut. I would have cut it differently.

Just my two cents.

Keep up the good work.

I agree with what others have said. I too, was waiting for a wide shot, because you had a great looking location for what little we saw of it, and I kept wanting to see where you were but you never got away from the close ups, and I felt like the audience wasnt able to breathe because we were so close to the band the whole time. I know its a fast paced song, but more locale would have helped. I would probably tighten up some of the shots to make it flow a little better. Because not only do shaky camera shots give energy, but powerful and precise editing can give energy than some people dont realize.... but good job. Quality and colors look good to me.

Cool cool .. yeah I dashed a few more WA shots in there ... agreed. It was a bit clostrophobic. But I don't want it to be too open .. I really want the charged and kinetic energy through out .. non stop in your face! I think I'm there!

Check out the new clip (above, next to the old one) and let me know how you guys are feelin it.

Rock,
Kev

Toaster...

its tough. I just showed it to a client as an example of how I want to shoot their next hardcore video, High shutter, good clean(ish) colour, simple, in your face.

Good to see some new stuff from you, keep it up bro.

A.
