Earthquake: So everyone in the DC area ok?

next to my office are the only stairs in the building so I'm used to noise. But about than suddenly the cheap, thin, old as dirt walls and ceiling start rumbling and shaking. I'm sitting there thinking "wtffff, are these idiots upstairs chasing each other?!?". IT was a crazy minute, something right out of a moviedidn't know we get earth quakes in MD. Next time I'm getting out FAST

Back in the days of analogue, as a kid I was panelling the breakfast session at Radio 2UE here and just after I'd cued up the 6 turn tables during the 7am news Sydney got a severe tremor, all the pickups jumped off the discs.

The newsreader saw what happened and broke up .. no other damage fortunately. Hope everythings ok where you are.

Cheers.

Was editing at USPS HQ in DC, 2 floors below ground. Whole bldg shook. I walked out into the hall. One of the staff said "WTF was that!?!?"
I said " I'd say that was at least a 5.0"
"Why do you say that?!"
"Because I experienced one out in California while I was stationed there and it felt JUST LIKE THAT".

Guess I wasn't too far off.

They shut down everything in DC, including the Metro system, which is how I came in in the morning.

So me and my buddy hiked over to Arlington National Cemetery in VA, through the thronging masses.

It was just like 9/11 all over again.

When we got over there it turned out that the trains were running at limited capacity and were packed.

We left D.C. at 2:30 and I got home at 5:30pm. To go 6.5 miles.

I'm enjoying a scotch right now.

;p

No complaints from me.

My buddy tweeted: "Managed to escape DC with the help of @mcgeedigital. Thanks again man!"

It's funny to see how some people still haven't learned to prepare for situations like this.

in NY, tens of thousands of idiots called 911 to say there was an earthquake, completely shutting down the system, and preventing the emergency services from doing their jobs, in an ACTUAL moment of (almost nearly near) emergency!!!!

Pshaw.........5.9? That's just enough to wake people up out here in California. We have those and ask "was that an earthquake? You didn't feel it? Hmm, maybe I'm just still drunk"

The Weather Channel reposted a tweet from someone in CA, to other Californians who were teasing (tweasing?) east coasters for freaking out: "Come on, let's not act like we're all one with natural disasters. Throw a tornado at us, and we'll probably hide in the attic."

Just heard about it. Glad to see it was a fairly laughable event for you guys for the most part. The other way is never good.
