Earthquake: So everyone in the DC area ok?

yeh here in Queens too. news said jfk was shut.

cell phones service was shut off as soon as it happened - that was like some terrorist response type thing. Cell service came back on again
a few minutes later
 
In Baltimore, MD it was a little shaky the phones are not working yet. Never knew cell service was so bad in a crisis, havent spoken to my father yet, and I feel lost about that.
 
It took me a few seconds.. half way thinking it was a low helicopter and then I realized the helicopter would have to be sitting on my roof for it to last that long. Nothing fell over, or fell off the walls. Only the 2nd one that I have felt.
 
Man, we felt it here in Baltimore...OHIO! (Suburb of Columbus)

Haven't heard any serious reports yet - phew!!! No one expected that!
 
Felt it here in Sterling/Herndon. Felt like a spell of vertigo that everyone was sharing. Very creepy. All is well though.
 
i didn't feel a damn thing....

My girlfriend says our apartment was shaking like crazy. 6th floor. I guess its resonated and intensified the effect.
 
how does such a weak earthquake effect such a large area? mean its like 1000 miles in every direction....
 
Just read something about that. Apparently the seismology on the east coast is very different from the west coast, and quakes don't subside as quickly so they affect a much bigger area. But they're also usually much more mild, and rarer.
 
what was weird was the timing of the disruption to the cell phones. I mean the tremors had stopped and it was a few minutes after and I was on the phone to someone talking when they cut the phone coverage
 
we had a 5.3 in colorado today as well... i didn't feel it (about 120 mi from the epicenter), but apparently the largest here in over 40 years.
 
Long, gentle rolling quake in Charlotte, NC. Very surprising having that feeling now that I'm not in California anymore.
 
Cape cod felt it. No tsunami thank god:) My wifes friend said her candles were shaking pretty bad, but honestly didn't feel anything. Must be my comfy new sneakers.
