FS7: E-mount to PL Mount Adaptor for FS7

I am looking to buy a Sony E Mount to PL adaptor. From the few reviews I've read, the Metabones seems to be the best. Anybody with real world experience. I plan to mount Canon Cine Zooms.

I had bad luck with the high-dollar Hot Rod Camera PL to e-mount adapter. ( around $1200 with mount support and the mount support doesn't work on the Fs7! ). The HRC Pl to E adapter wiggled something terrible. Replaced it with a less expensive Metabones PL to E. No more wiggle.

Just goes to show that expensive isn't always better.

That Wooden camera support pretty much commits you to the PL adapter. Once it is mounted you cannot use E-mount lenses or the EF to e-mount adapter without removing the PL adapter support. And that isn't a quick turnaround since it involves removing allen screws connected to the top plate. WC said they were going to come out with an updated version that would allow use of other mounts but to my knowledge they never did.
 
Make sure you get either stainless steel or carbon fiber rods and a decent lens support block to go from the rods to the lens, along with your e-mount to PL lens mount adapter.

Appears Wooden Camera's PL Adapter's support system could be left attached to the FS7 when used with Sony's 28-135mm, & 18-110mm, but haven't tested it yet.

Eh, I mean, if you think about it you're essentially changing the lens mount on your camera, similar to a RED camera going from PL to EF with a few screws. I see the wooden camera PL as the tidiest, sturdy solution. If you're shoot requires you to change from a PL to and E mount lens with rapid succession... well then sure it may not be ideal. But I'd argue that switching lens mounts shouldn't be something that needs to happen in 3 seconds or less. Meh, It's all preference I guess.

Rapid lens swaps are less preference and more necessity. Nature of the beast on many productions. ( on most of the jobs I do.) The lack of a lens that covers it all- superwide to telephoto - means lens swapping and often with urgency. At times I have to keep rolling while I perform the swaps so as to at least capture the audio of the action taking place during the swap. I have lens swapping down to about 5-8 seconds if I forgo using front-caps or back-caps. Both are overrated anyway. 😁

Of course, and I completely agree. But lens swaps are not equivalent to lens mount swaps. I was referring to needing to go from PL to EF in an instant. Having a lens kit with consistent mounts is DEFINITELY a necessity for run n gun.

Does the 1/4 20 support foot on that adapter clear front of the FS7 base to allow for a rod mounted support? I find this is the issue with my current metabones adapters as I'd love to lock them down but that protrusion on the base doesn't allow me to get rail support underneath.

I use a Letus "Quick Snap" lens support, & Kirk Photo 1" QR Clamp, for supporting the Metabones adapter. There's a bit of overlap, & the clamp doesn't grab the entire foot of the Metabones, but it removes any play at the E-Mount.

Yes it does. And locking it down makes all the difference, especially if you use a follow focus or a motor. I have the woodencamera universal base plate thingy, very nice solution.

I have a support similar to the Letus one but that quick release clamp will solve the slight offset to the base of the adapter. Thanks for sharing.
