E-mount Camcorders and SLT adapter.

FS700 can do DSLR speed continuous AF with A-mount lenses and SLT adapter (PDAF AF system, like DSLRs in still mode). The firmware upgrade will enable this on FS100 too.

However, keep in mind, if the user wants continuous PDAF AF in video mode (with A-mount lenses), he can't choose the apeture. The apeture is automatically set to either wide open (or F3.5 for faster lenses). I think that's just a technical limitatuon with PDAF system, which was designed to wok with lenses wide open. That's how DSLR AF.

Still, despite this limitation, I think this is very unique to the E-mount camcorders. No other other camcorder (at any price range) can do this. DSLRs obviously can't do this in video mode.

I'll have to wait to see what happens on the FS100, i'm using the sony zeiss SSM lenses so in theory that's right up my street.

I don't understand *why* there is a f3.5 maximum aperture and this is a down side. My zooms are all 2.8 and i would the like ability to use 2.8 at times.

dSLRs can AF at 2.8 so why not continuous? Is the error of margin that great? Well that's fine, but in some cases i'd like to make that choice myself.

cheers

you WILL have F2.8 :) ... I answer you here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?280040-4-Days-with-the-Sony-NEX-FS700/page4

Well i don't know for sure but in my testing using video on the Nex5n which supports the LA-EA2 fully, the fastest aperture is f3.5. If you set it lower the adapter changes to f3.5. Sony uses similar language for the Nex5N. In normal stills it works fine with 2.8.

Do you know for sure that you can do f2.8? I find the sony language a little ambigious and there was a thread months ago about it on here somewhere. For them is lower meaning a smaller aperture or a numerically lower f-stop number?

I really hope i'm wrong!

To be honest i really hope they just have a single push AF functionality. I'm not too fussed about tracking (unless it works really well but usually it doesn't)

cheers
