e-MCR Multi-Card Reader

Hi Tom,

The e-MCR is designed for our USB interface cards, the MxR and e-LCR, it will not work with SxS cards as they are PCIe based cards. They look the same but are completely different interfaces. Sorry about that.

Thanks a lot for your response!!

Are there any alternatives to the Sony reader at all??

Thanks

My research has only shown all Sony brand products to read SxS cards, so don't think you'll find non-Sony SxS card readers.

The only PCIe readers apart from a laptop (that are capable of reading SxS cards), that I am aware of use a PCIe slot, some having a front facing panel you can install into a desktop or tower, others an awkward slot in the rear of the computer.

None of these can successfully hot swap, some require reboot, others rescanning the ports, both inconvenient things to do, and most users comment on how fiddly it is.

I did see one other product that was hot swappable, and while it worked fine, it is not released, is very expensive, and still requires a PCIe card.

You may want to follow some of the threads from our P2 brethren, who have bought old laptops purely for their PCMCIA slots to download P2. They only use them as feeder machines. Just make ensure that the Expresscard reader works and away you go.
