So I wanted to find out for my self what's going on in the DR department. This was a DIY test chart done with ND filters glued together and theN put in front of a softbox, so take it for what it is. The last 2 stops to the right are a bit shady because there was a little bit of flare I think. But all else is O.K. I'll do more of this in the days to come, so if somebody has any requests please let me know. I'll be doing an ISO test next. I want to see what upping the ISO from 200 does to DR.
From this quick and dirty test it's obvious that the camera has 12 stops of DR and definitely 11 usable stops. The max stops is 13, and that is achieved by going Contrast -5 and using curves -5 and +5. Curves do however stretch out the noise. If you look at the graphs that have curves applied, it's obvious how the stops are stretched out making the noise visible. As I applied the curves I noticed that the last stop was pulled down, so opened the iris for almost a stop. So I conclude that you can get almost an extra stop using curves. Anyway, judge for your self:
C = contrast
H = highlights
S = shadows
